section.io Closes $1.5m Seed Funding Round Led by Boulder VCs Tahoma Ventures, Blue Note Ventures, Galvanize Ventures & Techstars Ventures Fund New Class of Content Delivery Network for High Volume Websites
BOULDER, COLO. –(July 20, 2016) - section.io, providers of a new class of Content Delivery Network (CDN) for agile web development teams, has closed a $1.5m seed funding round led by Boulder VCs including Tahoma Ventures, Blue Note Ventures, Galvanize Ventures and Techstars Ventures.
section.io is a CDN that specializes in improving the performance, scalability and security of high-traffic web sites. As the first and only CDN integrated with modern agile development workflows, section.io has many technical advantages over existing CDN providers. The section.io platform was created by developers using devops principles, eliminating the difficulties developers typically face when managing Content Delivery Networks such as unifying the application development workflow within the CDN. section.io gives engineers more control and flexibility to drive website performance and security.
“We are excited to add section.io to the Techstars Ventures portfolio,” said Ari Newman, partner at Techstars. “Their technology bakes website scaling in at the most fundamental level, and will change how the Content Delivery Network (CDN) industry delivers value going forward.. By bringing agile development workflows to the CDN industry, section.io has integrated the last bastion of the web application delivery stack with agile development workflows.”
Agile development teams are quickly recognizing the benefit of improving website security, speed and performance with section.io. Adept Mobile, a leading provider of mobile applications in the sports and entertainment space, replaced their existing CDN with section.io and is now able to serve 98.8% of all cacheable requests directly from cache – significantly improving the speed and scalability of the web applications.
“We cache a lot of data, JSON and images across multiple sites, and section.io made the process easy by providing the flexibility and confidence needed to know caching would work every time,” said Gabe Smallman, Founder and CEO of Adept Mobile. “Our Legacy CDN wasn’t flexible enough to drive our sites effectively and generate performance gains for our clients. As a result, we researched ways to improve caching and its integration with our development workflow. We chose section.io because their platform’s integration of the CDN layer with agile development workflows was simple to use, completely flexible and worked well every time.”
With the new funding round, section.io is accelerating its rapid growth by developing and scaling its sales and development teams. Additionally, the capital will allow the company to focus heavily on value-add partnerships with hosting providers, CMS providers, agile development tools and other complementary SaaS products.
Current partners include New Relic, Rackspace, BulletProof Hosting, eWAVE, AcidGreen and more. Third-party software vendors, co-lo facilities, CMS providers and developers (Wordpress, Drupal, Magento, etc.) interested in partnering and integrating with section.io should visit the partners page at https://www.section.io/about/#partners for more information.
